Regarding sending me things, here is an excerpt from a Peace Corps document about mail in Fiji:

"The mail service in Fiji is not as efficient as the U.S. Postal Service; thus, it is important to be patient. It can take 4 to 6 weeks for mail coming from Fiji to arrive in the United States via the Fiji postal system, and vice versa.

Family and friends like to send care packages through the mail. Unfortunately, sending packages can be a frustrating experience for all involved due to the high incidence of theft and heavy customs taxes. You may want to try to send inexpensive items through the mail, but there is no guarantee that these items will arrive. We do not recommend, however, that costly items be sent through the mail. It is recommended that packages be sent in padded envelopes if possible, as boxes tend to be taxed and opened more frequently."

I don't know of anyone who has had something stolen out of a package, I have to pay a customs tax for packages though. More valuable contents means a higher tax. Customs doesn't check every package though, so its rather random. I've received several boxes, all with their contents intact. Customs did open them to verify that the contents did match the packing slip, but I wasn't charged anything beyond the $3 customs fee. Using a flat-rate envelope or box is the best method, as you won't be charged for the weight but the package.

Basically, if you're gonna send me something, don't worry about what happens to it. I'll get it eventually. Emphasis on eventually...
